History

In 1973, the Parks and Recreation District #3 (PARDS) came into existence as a small vision for the residents of Old Ward 2 in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Recognizing the need for accessible and well-maintained recreational facilities, the Livingston Parish Council took the initiative to create PARDS as a separate and distinct body. The primary objective was clear: to develop, maintain, and operate public park recreational facilities that would cater to the diverse needs and interests of the community.

What started as a modest undertaking has since blossomed into a flourishing organization that serves the majority of the Denham Springs area. Over the years, PARDS has grown exponentially, expanding its services and infrastructure to meet the evolving demands of the community. Today, it boasts three expansive parks that have become cherished landmarks within the region.

At the heart of PARDS' mission is the commitment to provide exceptional recreational experiences that enhance the overall quality of life for residents. The district has diligently worked to create and preserve high-quality parks and facilities that serve as havens for outdoor activities, leisurely strolls, and family gatherings. These parks not only offer spaces for relaxation and enjoyment but also safeguard and celebrate the beauty of natural landscapes.

Recognizing the importance of physical fitness and well-being, PARDS has established a state-of-the-art fitness and aquatics facility. This facility stands as a testament to the district's dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and offering diverse opportunities for exercise, swimming, and wellness programs. Furthermore, PARDS has been instrumental in organizing and coordinating various youth and adult sports programs that cater to a wide range of interests, from baseball and basketball to soccer and tennis. These programs have not only nurtured the athletic talents of community members but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants.

Throughout its existence, PARDS has played a significant role in shaping the cultural fabric of Denham Springs. The district has hosted numerous big-name events that have drawn people from far and wide, contributing to the economic vitality and vibrancy of the area. From festivals and concerts to art exhibits and community celebrations, PARDS has provided a platform for shared experiences and memorable moments.

In times of natural disasters, PARDS has also stepped up to serve as a shelter, ensuring the safety and well-being of community members during challenging times. The district's unwavering commitment to the welfare of the residents has been a hallmark of its operation, demonstrating its integral role in the community's social fabric.

Throughout the years, PARDS has remained deeply rooted in its commitment to serving the community. The district's ongoing dedication to providing exceptional services, fostering inclusivity, and enhancing public spaces has earned it a well-deserved reputation as a pillar of the Denham Springs area. As PARDS continues to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of the community, it remains steadfast in its mission to uplift, inspire, and provide meaningful experiences that contribute to the overall well-being and happiness of the residents it proudly serves.
